Ionization
- most common off the shelf type, offers great protection, do
not place within 3' of a bathroom that has a shower or bathtub, or
within 20' of the kitchen..
Photoelectric - less common, but is better for
detecting smoldering type fires that are common in bedding, mattresses,
and similar materials. Use in bedrooms, near or in kitchens, near
bathrooms, or to replace ionization types when frequent false alarms are
a problem.
Wireless -
a modified ionization type that can interconnect either by
wire or by radio frequency (RF), when one alarm detects smoke, all
alarms on that system will sound. May also be used with a
alarm sounder to better alert the
hard of hearing, and may be used to expand an existing system without
having to call an electrician.
Heat
Detector - not a smoke detector but, detects heat not
smoke, a good backup or for use where vehicle exhaust would trip a smoke
detector as in a garage. Never equip your house with only a heat
detector, as smoke will kill well before fire.
Combination
- a combination of ionization and photoelectric types, or /
and carbon dioxide (CO)
detection and / or gas (propane,
methane, or natural gas) detection. |
